HYROX endangered other athletes by not removing Joanna Wietrzyk from competition. When she got food poisoning, this caused her to defecate while on the HYROX course. No official came to remove her for causing a biohazard. This does not only put athletes at risk, but those fans spectating. Only when video surfaced online and backlash generated was action taken. Joanna Wietrzyk response demonstrated a callous and dismissive attitude. The HYROX Beijing competition still rewarded her first place. When Wietrzyk received criticism she then forfeited her win. The bizarre aspect is there were some defending her. Criticizing inappropriate conduct or disgusting behavior done by women is not sexist. If she were a man, the reaction and punishment would have been prompt. The notion that women should not be accountable for certain behaviors and actions must end. Joanna Wietrzyk did indirectly face the consequences of her actions. Puma removed her retail line. The apology was forced due to public response. If no one objected HYROX probably would not have addressed the incident. Athletes should not be allowed to compete when ill. One aspect that cannot be ignored is that a Western athlete was behaving this way in an Asian country. Joanna Wietrzyk actions were disrespectful of Chinese fans and athletes competing.
